People Have Been Saying That I’ve Changed… | My Move to Selfhosted WordPress

September 15, 2017

Woah. This is different. I have – a theme? A blog that doesn’t look like it came straight out of a factory? I don’t know if you’ve noticed (I mean honestly, you have no reason to have noticed) but my blog is a little different. I’m partway through migrating my blog from to This means that I have to pay a little for hosting (it’s only $11.99 a year though) and I have a little more control over what my blog looks like.

Honestly, I wanted to get a little more serious with my blog and I feel like I wouldn’t be able to do that if I didn’t have full control over my blog. I’m a very visual learner, and I couldn’t hack it with the standardised themes that offered. While I am a visual learner, I’m not the best designer and so I wasn’t able to make my blog look aesthetically pleasing. I mean, it was alright but it was just alright. Nothing special. It was so average, that it was making me cringe a little bit.

However, I adored the community and the notification system – especially after coming from blogger. It was just so incredibly rich with comment alerts, likes and conversation that I actually felt like I was a part of something. I definitely wanted to keep that feeling, so I opted to continue using WordPress but start paying for my own domain and hosting. You’re looking at the result right now.

No. I’m such an indecisive person that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to say this is it. I’m happy. I know for a fact that I’m going to be changing my theme countless times in the next week, and I hope that it won’t annoy you too much! I know that I’m not exactly a big name in blogging, but I appreciate all of you that do read me and I would hate to have my indecisive nature scare you off. I’ll get it sorted soon, promise!

Whatever will I do next? Let me know if you think I made a good decision or not… I always find moving my content so stressful. I did it once with blogger to WordPress, and it almost made me want to stop blogging altogether. UGH. Hopefully, I’ll get through it though.

Congrats on the move! I love the look, but I totally get being indecisive. I changed my blog’s fairly regularly during the first two years, and then also changed the name XD So now that the possibilities are endless, go and explore!

Thank you Pamela! Indecision is my middle name, although I think that I’m slowing down a little now. I think I’ve changed my name…at least three times in my blogging ‘career’? I’m hoping that I am able to continue this indecision for many more years to come!

Your blog looks really nice! I have been considering making the move myself for a while but I haven’t committed yet. Do you have any advice or tips for what I should expect?

Aw, thank you so much! Making the move is pretty difficult to be honest, but my advice would be this:

      – Don’t rush into it, because it’s a big deal!
      – Make sure that you get a good hosting service (mine sent me an invoice for $27 when it was supposed to be $12)
      – Make sure that you know how to migrate all of your followers!

I might make a post on this actually, but I hope that this was helpful!
