October Wrap Up

November 8, 2017

I’ve missed the 1st of November by 8 days. What does that tell you about my time management skills? Nothing good I’m assuming. Anyway, here’s everything that happened last month and then some.

→ Books Read ←

Look at Me by Jennifer Egan. I found out about the author when someone recommended The Hold to me. That probably wasn’t the book you were expecting me to mention. I believe that she’s well known for her book Visit From the Goon Squad which was a book that I had actually heard of but never bothered to look it up. You can read my review HERE.

Boring Girls by Sara Taylor. I had never heard of this author before, but the gorgeous cover caught my eye. The synopsis was intriguing and it had quite a positive review from EMILY MAY who is someone that I see under most of the books that I want to read. I guess I figured that quantity = she knows what she’s talking about. In the end, I enjoyed listening to it. You can read my review HERE.

The Invasion of the Tearling $3.82USD. I’m planning on taking this to Uni because it’s one of my favourite books, and I figured that I had better get the hardback. It is ex-library which is a little annoying (the library stamp makes it a little ugly), but I’m happy that I even managed to get my hands on it. I haven’t been able to find the blue cover anywhere for less than $27 and to get it for $9ish including shipping is a pretty good deal IMO. Hoping that I can sell the paperback now! From ThriftBooks

Sandcastle Empire $4.47USD. Honestly, I hadn’t even considered reading this book until I had a couple of audiobook credits. Clicked on it, wasn’t a massive fan of the narrator but the plot seemed intriguing – so I bought it in hardback. It’s in excellent condition as well! Brand new, but with dents that you would expect when you’re getting something shipped from the USA to Asia. From ThriftBooks

(ARC) Sweetbitter $4.19USD. Yep, this was a massive mistake. 1) You’re not supposed to sell ARCs and 2) I ordered a hardback, so I honestly have no idea what went wrong. Pretty pumped about it though because it’s a first edition ARC, but still. Just found it a little odd. From I’m not going to say because I don’t want to implicate anyone.

(ARC) Scarlett Epstein Hates It Here for shipping costs. I’ve already read this book, and you can read my review HERE.

→ Life Updates ←

I applied to university. Technically, I did this in November, but it was close enough to the 31st of October that I feel alright with including it in here. I guess now it’s just waiting.

I had a two week holiday. In which I worked a little and slept a lot. I have a friend who spent the week studying unnecessarily for the entire holiday and now regrets it to the fullest. When I say studying, I mean she was spending hours each day in a tuition center – weekends included. So that’s a warning for you to not waste your holidays.

I bought a granny outfit. That probably wasn’t the right word. I mean vintage, kind of? Anyway, when you do the diploma that I’m doing, you have to write a longish essay and you have a couple of months to do it. Those months are up and now my school has a day where we can dress up as the topic that we were writing about. I was writing about the Secret History (yep, I was doing English literature as my subject) and so I tried to capture the essence of that time. JK I bought something that looked old fashioned but still cute and I’m wearing that. We don’t get to dress up very much.

Good luck with your future university plans. I found it interesting to learn about your essay and having to dress in costume for it. Sounds like a great way to immerse yourself as you dress the part.
